Rules of the jury

Procedure

A jury of eleven German and American experts deliberates over the submitted entries in a two-step process.
In the first round, the jury nominates 20 projects on the basis of the documents submitted online. A nomination brings admittance into the USable Network and possibilities for advanced training concerning your initiative (see Prizes). The nominations are announced in spring 2010. In the second round, three of the nominated initiatives are each awarded a project prize: €20,000 to be used in relation to your project. The prizewinners are announced in the early summer of 2010.

Evaluation criteria

The jury evaluates your application according to its relevance to the competition theme "Civic Engagement of Generation 50+", the strength of the implementation plan and with consideration to its sustainability. An initiative whose inspiration stems from a North American idea or from the American spirit of civic engagement is highly regarded.
