First Berlin Forum on Foreign Policy

On 29 November 2011, politicians, ambassadors, scientists from renowned think tanks, business and media representatives and young Europeans are meeting at the first Berlin Forum on Foreign Policy. In the Humboldt Carré building they will discuss core issues of German and European foreign policy in a new world order. German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle will open the conference and participate in the subsequent panel discussion.

In addition to German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, speakers will include German Defence Minister Thomas de Maizière, the Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, the Greek Foreign Minister Stavros Dimas, the parliamentary party leader of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Jürgen Trittin, the Tunisian web activist Slim Amamou and the fmr. spokesperson for the Libyan Transitional Council Iman Bugaighis.

Particular focus is placed on the involvement of the young generation of Europe: one of the forum's cooperation partners is Europe&Me, the online magazine by and for young Europeans. 7,000 readers of Europe&Me aged between 18 and 35 took part in a representative and detailed online survey throughout Europe, stating how they see Europe's foreign policy at present and would like to see it in the future. At the Berlin Forum for Foreign Policy some of them will present the results and discuss them with the participating foreign affairs politicians.

The occasion for the Berlin Forum on Foreign Policy, which is organised jointly by the Körber Foundation and the German Foreign Office, is the foundation of the Foreign Office 60 years ago. The forum wants to make the discussion on German and European foreign policy accessible to a broader audience that goes beyond the small circle of experts. All the sessions will be broadcast live on the Internet.

You will find the list of all the speakers and the latest information on the Berlin Forum on Foreign Policy at www.foreign-policy-forum.org.

Accreditation up to 28 November 2011.
