Ali Ahmed Karti, Klaus Wehmeier

What priorities is the Sudanese government setting for its domestic and foreign policy? Ali Ahmed Karti, Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Sudan, spoke with representatives of the Bundestag, the Federal Government and leading German think tanks.

Ali Ahmed Karti explained his government’s position regarding the internal situation of the country. He broached the issue of the difficult humanitarian situation in Sudan and of its impact on neighbouring states. Other topics included Sudan’s cooperation with China and the potential role of Europe in the Darfur conflict.

The Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of senior foreign policy practitioners to its Background Discussions . As in the larger Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place in confidence and away from public notice.
