Berlin, December 4, 2008

Dr. Andrei A. Kokoshin, Deputy Chairman of the “United Russia” Parliamentary Group of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, met with members of the German Bundestag and representatives of the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Defence, the Federal Intelligence Service as well as selected Think Tanks to discuss the relations between Russia and the EU, the Russian position with regard to Ukraine and Georgia, as well as the current state of Russian-Chinese relations.

The Political Background Discussion with Dr. Andrei A. Kokoshin continues Körber Foundation’s long-standing tradition of dialogue with Russia. This series has included the Bergedorf Round Tables on “Russia’s Responsibility in Global Affairs” (Moscow, 2008) and “The Black Sea between the EU and Russia” (Odessa, 2006) along with Political Background Discussions with Dr. Dmitry O. Rogozin, Permanent Envoy of the Russian Federation to NATO, Vladimir Chizhov, Russia’s permanent representative to the European Communities, and with Mikhail Margelov, Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking representatives of the Berlin foreign policy community to its Political Background Talks. As at the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank and constructive exchange.
