Political Background Discussion with Sergei N. Martynov

Sergei N. Martynov, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Belarus, met with members of the German Bundestag, representatives of the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Chancellery as well as selected think tanks to discuss issues pertaining to the foreign and economic policy of Belarus with particular attention to the European Union and the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP). In addition, bilateral relations with the Russian Federation and the domestic political situation in Belarus formed part of the discussion.
The Political Background Discussion with Sergei N. Martynov continued Körber Foundation’s tradition of dialogue with the countries of the Western CIS. This series has included the Bergedorf Round Tables on (Odessa, 2006), (Potsdam, 2005), (Lviv, 2004), along with Political Breakfasts with Mikhail Margelov , Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, Konstantin I. Grishchenko , former Foreign Minister of Ukraine and Foreign Policy Adviser to the Ukrainian Minister President, and Konstantin Kosachev , Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.
The Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Background Discussions. As in the larger Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
