Political Background Discussion with Fatmir Sejdiu

Dr. Fatmir Sejdiu, President of the Republic of Kosovo, met with members of the German Bundestag, representatives of federal ministries, government agencies and selected think tanks to discuss the challenges and perspectives of Kosovo’s integration into the Euro-Atlantic structures.
In his opening statement Sejdiu described the progress which Kosovo had made since independence in the areas of state-building, democratization and economic development. He went on to emphasize that Kosovo was determined to continue on this path. Its overriding goal was stepwise integration into European structures. The ensuing discussion focused primarily on relations between Serbia and Kosovo. Sejdiu underlined the fact that the Kosovar government was certainly prepared to hold talks with Serbia. However, a discussion about the status of Kosovo was totally unacceptable. If the current status quo were changed yet again, it could well lead to the destabilization of the whole region.

As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
