Peter Semneby, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, discussed recent developments in the South Caucasus with members of the German Bundestag and representatives of the Federal Foreign Office as well as of selected think tanks. He elaborated on the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), US, Russian and Turkish interests in the region as well as on the debate about Georgia’s potential NATO accession.
Furthermore, the discussion focussed on the recent presidential elections in Armenia, the consequences of Kosovo’s declaration of independence for the frozen conflicts and the "Black Sea Synergy" developed under the German EU Presidency.
The Political Breakfast with Peter Semneby continues Körber Foundation’s dialogue on European foreign policy and the EU policy toward the Union's Eastern neighbours. This series includes, among others, the 134th Bergedorf Round Table on (Odessa, 2006), Political Background Discussions with Toomas Hendrik Ilves , President of the Republic of Estonia, and Gela Bezhuashvili , former Foreign Minister of the Republic of Georgia, the Field Trip of the Körber Network Foreign Policy to Georgia as well as the Political Breakfast with Valdis Zatlers , President of the Republic of Latvia and patron of the Körber Foundation-sponsored "EUSTORY" history competition in Latvia.
Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of senior Berlin foreign policy players to its Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Table, the discussions take place confidentially and away from public attention.
