Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Secretary General of the Ahmad Shah Massoud Foundation and former Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, recently visited Germany upon invitation of the Körber Foundation. Meeting with Members of the German Bundestag, government representatives and selected experts, he discussed the opportunities and challenges facing Afghanistan in 2008. Paying particular attention to the commitment of the NATO-led ISAF Mission in Afghanistan, in which Germany is taking part, Dr. Abdullah presented policy options aiming at the stabilization of his home country. He placed special importance on strengthening the provincial administrations. In addition, Dr. Abdullah discussed the roles played by Pakistan and Iran with respect to Afghanistan’s political and economic development.
The Political Breakfast with Dr. Abdullah represents a continuation of the Körber Foundation’s dialogue with Afghan politicians. On 30 January 2007 Dr. Rangin Dadfar Spanta , Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, was a guest at the Körber Foundation’s Berlin office.
The Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-level foreign policy players to its Background Discussions . As with the Bergedorf Round Table, the discussions take place confidentially and away from public attention.
