Nadia Murad, a UN Goodwill Ambassador and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was patron of the 2017 Days of Exile. Nadia Murad opened the programme on 12 June.
Nadia Murad was abducted by IS at the age of 21; as UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking, she opened the 2017 Hamburg Days of Exile. The event was moderated by Birgit Langhammer from the broadcaster NDR.
As part of the second Days of Exile, Körber-Stiftung and Weichmann Stiftung organised the first ever Hamburg Speech on Exile. The speech was given by writer Ilija Trojanow who blended autobiographical experiences, observations and philosophical reflections on forced displacement, to underscore both the unacceptable demands placed on exiles and the opportunities associated with new beginnings that are chained to the past. Sven Tetzlaff from Körber-Stiftung moderated the event.
