EU Presidency Trio to open this year’s Berlin Foreign Policy Forum

On 24 November the Berlin Foreign Policy Forum 2020 will take place in cooperation with the German Federal Foreign Office. Under the headline »Turning Crisis into Opportunity? Europe in a (Post-) Pandemic World Order«, the Forum will again set the stage for discussions on the most important current foreign policy challenges for Germany and Europe.

How to deal with new challenges for European solidarity and effective European coordination during and after the COVID-19 pandemic? What is Europe’s position towards the strained US-China relationship? How will the results of the US election influence the country’s global role and how can digitalization contribute to an open, liberal society?

German Federal Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and his counterparts Minister of State and of Foreign Affairs Augusto Santos Silva from Portugal and Minister of Foreign Affairs Anže Logar from Slovenia will open the Berlin Forum within the EU Presidency Trio. Further speakers include German Minister of Defense Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, Spanish President of Government Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón, former U.S. Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power and former Executive Chairman & CEO of Goaogle and Co-Founder of »Schmidt Futures«, Eric Schmidt. See here for the agenda with all speakers.

This year’s Berlin Forum will take place as a special hybrid event, including exclusive virtual participation. Our newly developed conference platform will connect participants from all over the globe working in politics, government, think tanks, civil society and the media to follow the event and participate in the discussions. In our livestream, all panel discussions are available in English and German to the broader public. Questions and comments can be contributed via Twitter with the hashtag #BerlinForum

At the Berlin Forum, Körber-Stiftung will again present its foreign policy publication The Berlin Pulse. In the fourth edition of The Berlin Pulse, we present the results of the 2020 survey alongside interviews and essays by international experts and policy-makers, outlining their hopes and expectations of German foreign policy. In cooperation with the Pew Research Center and the British Embassy Berlin, this year’s edition also gives insights on attitudes to foreign policy in the United States and the United Kingdom. The authors include Peter Altmaier, Gro Harlem Brundtland, Rose Gottemoeller, and H.R. McMaster, among others. You can find all results and contributions here.
