The members of the Körber Network Foreign Policy gathered for our first digital background discussion with Caroline Schmutte, Germany Office Lead at Wellcome Trust in Berlin. Caroline Schmutte shared her views on the current state of the corona pandemic and its implications for the global order. During the conversation a variety of issues were discussed, including the perspectives for the Global South and prospects for the international economic infrastructure after the crisis. Asked about lessons learnt for multilateral cooperation, Caroline explained that “The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation, CEPI, is a great example of successful multilateral action in global health. It draws together funding and know-how from all over the world to develop urgently needed vaccines against COVID19 and other emerging infectious diseases”.
