    International approaches to fight loneliness – Aarhus

    Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark, is leading by example to enable good live in old age and to fight loneliness. A film follows the participants of the Körber Foundations project „Age & City“ on their expedition to explore the danisch ways to age-friendliness.

    Demographic change is a global which challenge which we have to adress locally. For that reason the Körber Foundation invites municipality demography representatives from all over Germany to learn from international pioneer cities. The first Expedition Age & City leads ten city officials to Aarhus – with a film crew as company. 

    The film „Aarhus – Stadt gegen Einsamkeit“ (engl. „Aarhus – City against Loneliness“; english subtitles available) presents the strategic guidelines of the Health and Care Department and its director Hosea-Che Dutschke. It portraits numerous forerunner projects in the fight against loneliness: the Center for Welfare Technologies DokkX, the online platform Genlyd, the neighborhood center Folkestedet, the  housing project Generationernes Hus and the largest library in Scandinavia – the Dokk1. 

    The participant’s conclusion: „It is the strategy that makes this unique.  A strategy that is consistent from the top to the bottom. All the things that can be done to enable the population to live self-determined within their own four walls, within their own district.“
