Political Background Discussion with H. E. Masoud Barzani

H. E. Masoud Barzani, President of the Federal Region Kurdistan-Iraq, met with members of the German Bundestag, representatives of the Federal Foreign Office as well as selected think tanks to discuss the political future of Iraq. Further topics of discussion included the major challenges for Iraqi Kurdistan lying ahead as well as the Iraqi expectations from Germany and the European Union.
The Political Background Discussion with H. E. Masoud Barzani continues Körber Foundation’s tradition of dialogue with high ranking representatives from the Middle East. This series includes Political Breakfasts and Background Discussions with H.R.H. Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Foreign Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, H. H. Sheikh Abdallah Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates, H. Em. Ammar Al-Hakim, Vice President of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, as well as Dr. Mehdi Safari, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran; furthermore the 136th Bergedorf Round Table on “Turkey as a Partner for European Foreign Policy in the Middle East” (Istanbul 2007), the 139th Bergedorf Round Table on “Iraq and its Neighbourhood: Strategies for Stability”(Damascus, February 2008) and the field trip of the Körber Network Foreign Policy to Iran.
Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
