Political Background Discussion with Ali Ahani

Berlin, April 7, 2009

Ali Ahani, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with representatives of the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Intelligence Service and associates of selected think tanks and associations to discuss Iran’s regional role in the Middle East. Furthermore, the discussion focused on the Iranian position with regard to the current developments in Afghanistan.

The Political Background Discussion with Ali Ahani continues Körber Foundation’s tradition of dialogue with Iranian representatives. This series includes the Background Discussion with Mehdi Safari, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the Political Breakfasts with Manouchehr Mohammadi, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rohani, member of the Supreme National Security Council, the Expediency Council, the Assembly of Experts of the Islamic Republic of Iran and President of the Center for Strategic Research, and Saeed Jalili, Secretary General of the Supreme National Security Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the field trip of the Körber Network Foreign Policy to Iran.

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
