Political Background Discussion with Ahmet Davutoğlu

Berlin, June 16, 2009

Ahmet Davutoğlu, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Turkey, met with foreign policy decision-makers and experts, among them former Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs Joschka Fischer, members of the German Bundestag, representatives of the Federal Chancellery and the Federal Foreign Office as well as associates of selected think tanks, to discuss current issues of Turkish foreign and security policy. The discussion focused on Turkey’s contribution to regional conflict management in the Middle East, the Southern Caucasus and the Black Sea region as well as on potential fields of cooperation between the EU and Turkey.

The Political Background Discussion with Ahmet Davutoğlu continues Körber Foundation’s focus on Turkey. This series includes the Political Breakfast with Murat Mercan, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and the 136th Bergedorf Round Table on “Turkey as a Partner for European Foreign Policy in the Middle East” (Istanbul 2007).

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
