Helga Schmid, Head of the Political Staff of the High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary General of the EU Council, met with members of the German Bundestag, representatives of the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Foreign Office, Office of the Federal President, the Federal Ministry of Defense as well as with associates of selected think tanks to discuss current issues of European foreign policy.
The discussion focused on the performance of the EU as an actor in foreign and security policy.
The Political Breakfast with Helga Schmid continues Körber Foundation’s tradition of dealing with issues of European foreign and security policy.
This series has included the Political Background Discussions and Political Breakfasts with Michel Miraillet, Director of the Department for Strategic Affairs in the French Ministry of Defence, Peter Semneby, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, as well as the 138th Bergedorf Round Table on the topic “Can the EU Ensure Europe’s Security?”(Warsaw 2007).
Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
