Murat Mercan, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, met with members of the German Bundestag, representatives of the Federal Foreign Office as well as of the Office of the Federal President to discuss current issues of the Turkish foreign and security policy. Moreover, the discussion focused on the Turkish contribution to regional conflict management in the Middle East as well as on potential fields of cooperation between the EU and Turkey.
The Political Breakfast with Murat Mercan continues Körber Foundation’s focus on current issues, which are of particular relevance for European foreign and security policy. This series includes Political Breakfasts and Background Discussions with Helga Schmid, Head of the Political Staff of the High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary General of the EU Council, Krzysztof Lisek, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, and Ali Ahani, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the 142nd Bergedorf Round Table on “Conflict Management in the Middle East: Regional Solutions to Regional Problems?” (Beirut 2009) and the 136th Bergedorf Round Table on “Turkey as a Partner for European Foreign Policy in the Middle East” (Istanbul 2007).
Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
