Political Background Discussion with Daniel Fried

Berlin, April 29, 2009

Daniel Fried, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs of the US Department of State, met with representatives of the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Defense as well as with associates of selected think tanks to discuss chances and challenges for transatlantic relations. Furthermore, the discussion focused on US-Russia relations and on the stabilization of the Southern Caucasus.

The Political Background Discussion with Daniel Fried continues Körber Foundation’s focus on the transatlantic dimension of European foreign and security policy. This series has included the Political Background Discussions with Lieutenant General Karl W. Eikenberry, Deputy Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Lieutenant General Henry A. Trey Obering III, Director of the Missile Defense Agency of the United States Air Force, as well as the 140th Bergedorf Round Table on the topic “The Future of NATO” (June 2008).

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
