Background Discussion with Andreas Reinicke

Berlin, May 7, 2012

Andreas Reinicke, EU Special Representative to the Middle East Peace Process met in Berlin with Members of the Bundestag, representatives from government agencies and selected think tanks to discuss the perspectives of the Middle East Peace Process and the impact of the Arab Spring on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The focus of the discussion highlighted the possible developments that could arise from the Middle East process in the upcoming months. Participants at the discussion examined the conditions and options available to the various parties involved in seeking a resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Also discussed was the role of the European Union in brokering a sustainable peace process. Some participants expressed concerns over the consequences of a potential military strike against Iran, and how this would affect regional stability and the Middle East peace process.

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
