David Bakradze, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia met in Berlin with Members of the Bundestag, representatives from government agencies and selected think tanks to discuss the upcoming parliamentary elections in October 2012 as well as the relations with Russia, the EU and other neighbouring states.
The discussion highlighted the political and economic reforms that Georgia has been pursuing in the past years. For the upcoming parliamentary elections in October this year, Georgia welcomes the EU to field an observer mission to monitor the elections process. Also discussed were Georgia’s relations with the US and Europe. In view of the Russian military build-up in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the discussion also focused on the approach for Georgia to adopt in its relations with Russia, and how the EU can help in promoting greater stability in the Caucasus region.
