Press Breakfast with Tsakhia Elbegdorj

Tsakhia Elbegdorj, President of the Republic of Mongolia spoke in Berlin with journalists from German and international media on Mongolia’s developments in domestic and foreign policy and potentials for cooperation between Mongolia and Germany.

In reviewing the political developments in Mongolia, it was noted that the democratic transition in Mongolia in 1990 has proceeded relatively smoothly without major unrests in the country. Since then, Mongolia has witnessed its 6th parliamentary elections, and it has developed an independent and flourishing media. Nonetheless, there was a need to continue to strengthen democratic developments as well as to manage the level of corruption in the country.

In discussing Mongolia’s relations with Germany, it was generally acknowledged that Mongolia not only regarded Germany as an important trading partner, but also as an ally in promoting greater democratic values and norms.

There was also an exchange of views on the importance of China for Mongolia’s economy, and Mongolia’s third neighbour policy including its relations with the US and Russia.
