Background Discussion with Christian Le Mière & Sarah Raine

Berlin, 12 March 2014

Christian Le Mière, Senior Naval Fellow, and Sarah Raine, Consulting Fellow for Geo-economics and Security at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), met in Berlin with Members of the German Bundestag, representatives of various government agencies as well as selected experts. Christian Le Mière addressed the situation in the East China Sea focusing on the tensions between China and Japan. Sarah Raine placed an emphasis on the complex conflict situation in the South China Sea. Both distinctly advocated greater European commitment to diplomatic relations and security policy in the whole Asia-Pacific.

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
