Political Breakfast with Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Senator Elizabeth Warren

Berlin, 14 October 2015

Körber Foundation welcomed Senator Jeanne Shaheen, New Hampshire, and Senator Elizabeth Warren, Massachusetts, for a Political Breakfast in its Berlin Office. On the occasion of the refugee crisis and the tense situation in Ukraine the Senators talked to representatives from both politics and civil society to get insights on the current political situation in Europe. The discussion with Members of the German Bundestag, representatives from the ministries and experts focused mainly on the crises inside and outside of Europe. Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Jeanne Shaheen assigned a key role to Germany in its mediation between Russia and Ukraine. Both visitors considered the German Federal Government to be a pioneer in handling the flow of refugees from Syria and its neighboring countries, calling Germany a role model for other European states. According to the speakers a comprehensive settlement of the Syrian civil war can only be reached by taking into account the international community and finding a political solution.

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
