Background Discussion with H.E. Aleksey Meshkov

Berlin, November 19, 2015

H.E. Aleksey Meshkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, met in Berlin with Members of the German Bundestag, representatives of government agencies and selected experts to discuss the current state of Russian-European relations and Russia’s role in the crisis in Ukraine. The Deputy Foreign Minister supported a quick implementation of the Minsk-II-Agreement and assigned an important role to Germany’s presidency of the OSCE in 2016. The OSCE could be considered as a crucial forum for dialogue among the Eurasian continent. Regarding the civil war in Syria Mr. Meshkov stressed the importance of combatting terrorism as a common goal of all international partners.

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
