During his inaugural visit Filippo Grandi, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, met in Berlin with Members of the German Bundestag and representatives from government agencies as well as selected think tanks to discuss the current challenges of the global refugee movement. He focused on the current conflicts and the humanitarian situation in the Middle East and called upon Europe to demonstrate solidarity rather than to close its borders. Filippo Grandi emphasized that a growing refugee movement could potentially lead to more instability if the current conflicts are not solved.
Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
