Political Breakfast with Ben Barry and Nick Childs

Berlin, 25 February 2016

Ben Barry, Senior Fellow for Land Warfare, and Nick Childs, Senior Fellow for Naval Forces and Maritime Security at the London-based International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), presented the most important results of this year’s Military Balance Report in Berlin. The experts discussed the current global security challenges and their consequences for Europe with representatives from the German Bundestag, ministries and think tanks. Russia’s growing military role as well as China’s military aims were subject of the discussion. The internationalization of civil wars in the Middle East has led to an even more complex situation with a wide range of different actors involved, they argued. Also, they emphasized that the balance of military power is becoming more complex due to factors like hybrid warfare and cyber technologies.

Körber Foundation regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. As in the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place shielded from the public, so as to enable a confidential, frank, and constructive exchange.
