The former US Secretary of State John Kerry met Members of the German Bundestag, representatives of several ministries and think tanks, as well as a number of select experts for a background discussion on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Secretary Kerry emphasized that the nuclear deal so far had fulfilled its purpose. Accordingly, Secretary Kerry warned, a break-down of the agreement would lead to potentially negative consequences with regard to both Iranian domestic politics and overall stability in the Middle East. The subsequent discussion focused on the situation in Syria, current tensions in the region, as well as the future of transatlantic relations.
