Berlin, 29 April 2020
General (Ret.) David H. Petraeus, Partner at KKR and Chairman of the KKR Global Institute, met with members of the German Bundestag, representatives of several ministries and experts from select think tanks for a digital Background Discussion hosted by Körber-Stiftung. General Petraeus, former CIA-Director (2011-2012) and Commander of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) (2010-2011), and the participants discussed the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on defence budgets, the effects on both the US and European economy, and the role of NATO in coping with the crisis.
Körber-Stiftung regularly invites a small circle of high-ranking actors within Berlin’s foreign policy community to its Political Background Discussions. In order to continue our discussions in the digital realm, Körber-Stiftung has initiated a new series, the “Digital Background Discussions”, derived from the Political Background Discussions. With this series, Körber-Stiftung aims to facilitate an exchange about current challenges for foreign and security policy – including, but not limited to, the consequences of the COVID-19 crisis. As at the Bergedorf Round Tables, the discussions take place in a confidential setting, so as to enable a frank and constructive exchange.
